EPWS Conference: “Navigating Gender Equality in Science: Pathways to Progress”
The annual conference of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS) was held virtually on December 3, 2024.
The focus of the conference was on gender equality in research and innovation policies. It aimed to explore the latest developments in EU research policy following the recent European Parliament elections and the formation of the new European Commission. Key questions addressed included how gender equality will be integrated into the research and innovation agenda and the main topics planned for the upcoming EU Framework Programme.
The event was organized and moderated by members of the EPWS Board of Administration: Dr. Lucia Martinelli (Italy), Prof. Colette Guillopé (France), Dr. Maren Jochimsen (Germany), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dalia Šatkovskienė (Lithuania), and Assoc. Dr. Eija Tuominen (Finland).
The conference was opened by EPWS President, Dr. Lucia Martinelli
Presentations were delivered by prominent speakers, including:
- Alessandra Moretti, Member of the European Parliament, Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality
- Kateřina Svičková, Head of the Gender Sector, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission
- Dr. Marcela Linková, Head of the Gender Research Centre, Institute of Sociology, Czech Academy of Sciences, and Member State Co-Chair of the European Research Area Committee (ERAC).
The conference provided EPWS members with valuable insights into the latest EU research policy developments and upcoming initiatives. Participants had the opportunity to engage with speakers, ask questions, and share their views, concerns, and aspirations regarding EU research policy and future projects.
