About the conference
Research and innovation (R&I) play key roles in striving towards smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in Europe. The full use of human capital involving both men and women at all levels of R&I is one of the prerequisites for achieving this objective. Thus why gender equality in research is one of the priorities of EU research policy. Twenty years of activities revealed the main stakeholders and ways leading to understanding and developing strategies on how to tackle the problem in research organizations. It became clear that implementation of the gender equality process requires dialogue and close cooperation between all interested parties: researchers, administrators of research organizations, science regulating and funding organizations and science policymakers. Projects funded by EC played a special role in the development of gender equality policy in research. FP6 BASNET project, coordinated by Vilnius University, was among those who organized and tested women scientist’s networks with science policymakers for the creation of gender equality Strategy in the Baltic States. At that time it was rather new and innovative practice. For ensuring the continuation of the project tasks in the after project period the regional Baltic States association of women scientists working in STEM – BASNET Forumas was established on the basis of the project partner organizations.
The celebration of BASNET Forumas 10th anniversary is a good opportunity to take stock of the efforts and the progress made in the field and discuss the new challenges and role of NGOs in gender equality policymaking, dissemination and its implementation both, in EU and in the Baltic States
The concept of the conference
